Saratoga Takes A Stand Against Casino Gambling Expansion

Saratoga County leaders have seen the new state law that will allow casinos in New York, and although state voters approved the measure in the last election back in November, Saratoga does not want to be part of the expansion. On Tuesday night, a hearing was held with over 300 Saratoga residents in attendance to discuss the issue of expanded casino gambling. After listening to arguments from both sides of the equally split crowd, a resolution was passed to keep Saratoga free of any new casinos. The issue will likely now become one that is fought between Saratoga and the state. New York wants to bring a casino to Saratoga Springs, mainly to the famed racing course. Saratoga officials, however, argue that when the state voted back in November, a large majority of Saratoga residents voted against the measure to bring new casinos to the state. They have used that… more

Nevada And Delaware Reach Historic Online Gambling Agreement

It was a historic day for online gambling in the US on Tuesday. Nevada and Delaware, two of the three states to regulate Internet gambling last year, have signed an agreement to allow residents of each state to play against online poker players in the other. “This is going to change the game of online poker in the US and throughout the world,” said Analyst Grant Sheridan, shortly after the Nevada-Delaware deal was announced. “To have states allowing cross-border gambling is not only historic, but a game changer.” The deal not only includes Nevada and Delaware, but deal drafters also included the possibility that as other states start to regulate Internet gambling, they may join the network of nationwide online sites. “The possibilities that are ahead of us are truly extraordinary,” said Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval. “The agreement we’ve signed today provides the tools and the structure necessary for us… more

Nevada Joins With Delaware for Multistate Online Poker Pact

Nevada and Delaware announced they are linking their new online poker operations, a step that will let players in both states gamble at the same virtual tables. The agreement develops a framework for the expansion of online betting to include other states, according to a statement issued today by both governors. Combining bets from players in multiple states allows online operators to offer a greater variety of poker games and stakes, according to Seth Palansky, a spokesman for Caesars Entertainment Corp. (CZR)’s interactive business. With more money being wagered, companies such as Caesars can offer larger prizes in tournaments. “This agreement represents a crucial step in Delaware’s and Nevada’s efforts to make our online poker offerings more diverse, more competitive, and ultimately more enjoyable,” Delaware Governor Jack Markell said in a statement. Nevada, Delaware and New Jersey are the first three states to legalize online gambling. Betting is limited to… more

Temporary Control Of Revel Casino In Atlantic City Goes To Chatham

Revel Casino Hotel was expected to be the savior for the Atlantic City gaming industry after the economic recession of 2008. The casino, which was going to modernize AC, was being built with billions of dollars invested, with the hopes of reviving the New Jersey gaming market. That plan came to a crashing halt when financing ran out shortly after the recession. When the facility was finally opened, it did so to much fanfare. Despite the attraction for gamblers, Revel fell well short of expectations, signaling the final changing of the guard in the Northeast. With one bankruptcy under its belt, Revel majority shareholders Chatham Asset Management secured the approval this week of the New Jersey Casino Control Commission to seize control of Revel. Whether that means Chatham will be a long-term solution, is yet unknown. At the hearing to announce the approval, Chatham Principal Evan Ratner explained that the… more

Macau Casino Revenue Now Larger Than Entire US

The city of Macau has had a quick rise to fame within the casino gambling industry over the past decade. What was once a monopoly held by casino tycoon Stanley Ho, has turned into the largest gaming market in the world. The revenue figures have been released for 2025, and what was once a small gap between Macau casinos and the next largest worldwide market, Las Vegas, has grown to never before seen gaps. Macau casinos brought in $45 billion, a figure even gaming companies could only have dreamed about five years ago. Macau has not only surpassed Las vegas in terms of overall gaming revenue, but for the first time in history, the city outpaced the entire US casino market. The approximately 12,000 casinos in the US brought in $37.3 billion in 2025. The US figures do not count tribal casinos that are operated on reservations and not regulated… more

Video Lottery Terminals Lead To Social Concerns In Italy

Italy has always been strongly opposed to online gambling, allowing only a select number of operators to rule their gaming market. In recent years, the World Trade Organization has forced Italy to come into compliance with European Union trade agreements. In the time since the country has started to comply, a different type of gambling has slowly chipped away at some social disorder. Italians are gambling at video lottery terminals at a record pace, and lawmakers are concerned that the social problems being caused by the VLT’s has become too great. Lawmakers at a regional level have started to act on the social ills associated with increased gambling problems. While the problem is one that is seen throughout Italy, with thousands of residents admitting to having a gambling problem, national legislators are turning a blind eye, according to one local lawmaker. Kentucky Lawmakers Prepare Expanded Gambling Bill For Late 2025

The state of Kentucky has had a wild ride when it comes to casino gambling over the past few years. At a time when entertainment gambling halls became popular among residents, law enforcement led an attack on the gaming establishments that ended in convictions relating to legislator bribery. Now, several years after the dust has settled with that legal issue, lawmakers are again preparing to push for regulated casinos. It is an issue that has surfaced, and been defeated, several times in recent years, but one that keeps coming back due to the lucrative nature of the industry. This time around, legislators are banking on the idea that the state cannot afford to pass up the hundreds of millions of tax dollars that come with regulated casinos. It is a structure that has worked in other states, and one that Kentucky gaming proponents believe will sway voters this time around…. more

Wynn Concerned Massachusetts Law Could Deter Gamblers

Steve Wynn has been around casino gambling for his entire adult life. He owns the top gaming company in the US, Wynn Resorts, and has properties in several different states around the country. His clout is a reason why some Massachusetts lawmakers are listening carefully to Wynn’s assertion that a certain gaming law in the state could be bad for business. Wynn is worried that the $600 limit on which gamblers have to pay state taxes on winnings could be a deterrent to keep the gamblers away from the casinos. Massachusetts is new to the casino game, with lawmakers only approving casino gambling earlier this year. One of the laws created has gamblers being taxed, in the casino, when their winnings total more than $600. Wynn has taken exception to the $600 figure, which is the lowest for any state in the US. Only 15 states even have a state… more
